Study room reservations
November 30th, 2011Group study rooms in the Learning Commons are in high demand. Consider planning ahead and making your reservation in advance: http://apps.odu.edu/openroom/reservation_view.php
Here are some of the guidelines:
--> Collaboration rooms (for 2 or more students) can be reserved up to 7 days in advance.
--> Reservations may be made for a minimum of 30 minutes or a maximum of two (2) hours. Only one reservation per day.
--> Reservations will be held for 15 minutes. After 15 minutes, reservations will be cancelled by staff at the Learning Commons Help Desk.

Construction Update 7/29/10
July 29th, 2010On the south side addition (Student Success Center):
-- Steel is being erected and the anticipated completion for the steel is 8/13.
-- All concrete foundation work has been completed along with the majority of the underground sanitary, fire sprinkler and electrical work.
-- The closure of the lane has been approved and the lane will remain completely closed until they are through with major, consistent deliveries for the building; the exception is that the lane and sidewalk will be reopened for home football games.
On the north addition:
-- The underground storm and sanitary work has been completed as well as the concrete foundations.
-- The addition has been formed and a porous fill will be placed. Then the floor boxes and the under slab electrical will be installed.
-- A vapor barrier will be placed and then they will proceed with the pouring of the slab probably by the end of next week.
On the interior renovation:
2nd floor Circulation/Microforms:
-- The carpet tiles have been received and the carpet will be completed the first of next week.
-- The remaining countertop materials and panels will be completed by end of this week.
-- The microforms area has been completed except for paint and electrical touchups and cleaning. The doors are expected by 8/9.
Within the next two weeks, the installation of some permanent walls and some temporary walls with the existing library will be taking place to begin the process of separating the construction areas from the public spaces. Some of these walls will be on the second and third floor as well to prepare for the infill of third floor and the construction of the new steps. There will be access to all offices.
The new rail for the handicapped ramp on the west side of the building will be installed by 8/3.

Construction Update 7/8
July 8th, 2010Learning Commons Construction:
-- Because of demolition at the west entrance to Perry Library, RAMP ACCESS is temporarily unavailable. Users needing ramp access are asked to use the east entrance.
-- 2nd floor MICROFORMS cabinets and equipment have moved to other locations on the 2nd floor:
* Microfilm cabinets are now located along the east exterior wall in call number order.
* Microfiche cabinets are located on the interior east wall.
* Reader/printers and video monitors are also located on the interior east wall. with
-- 4th floor JUVENILE BOOK collection and AUDIO-VISUAL materials (ranges 102-106) have been temporarily moved to the front area (west) of the 3rd floor (ranges 88-91) while a shift takes place on the 4th floor. Audio-visual materials will eventually be available at the 2nd floor circulation service desk in early August.

July 5: 2nd floor staff office construction begins (completion: Aug 16)
August 1: 1st floor lobby cleared out; Public lobby computers and public accounts will be unavailable.
early August:
* Reference Desk and computers move to back of 3rd floor (through July 2011)
* Circulation Desk moves to 2nd floor
August 25: 1st floor renovation begins to construct Learning Commons (completion: sometime at the end of 2011)

. . . . . . Construction on the front of the library continues. Entrance to the library is from the east or west sides.
Reminder: Printing to student accounts must be done in the OCCS computer lab at the back of the 2nd floor. Access to the lab is from the back elevators.

June 25th, 2010Learning Commons Construction:
-- The front library entrance is closed as of June 21. Users must enter through the east or west entrances.
-- The OCCS computer lab and mini learning commons are fully functional at the back of the 2nd floor. Access to the lab is from the back elevators.
-- 1st floor reference services and computers are available through early August, at which time they will be moved to the back of the 3rd floor.
- - - - ->Printing from these computers to the Reference printer is $.10/page. Printing to student accounts must be done in the 2nd floor lab.
-- Public workstations in the lobby will be unavailable as of August 1. Public accounts will no longer be available.
"Projected" timeline:
July 1: Circulation Desk opens on 2nd floor

Computer Lab Update 6/23
June 21st, 2010The OCCS computer lab at the back of the 2nd floor is now fully functional.
1st floor reference computers are available through early August, at which time they will be moved to the back of the 3rd floor.
- Printing from these computers to the Reference printer is $.10/page.
The Webb Center lab is open from 9am-6pm Monday-Friday.
Perry Library Entrance
June 21st, 2010If you're coming to the Perry Library, you'll need to enter at the east or west side of the building. As of June 21, the front entrance is closed.
Construction Update 6/16
June 16th, 2010Learning Commons Construction:
-- the OCCS computer lab has been moved to the back of the 2nd floor. It should be available for use very soon (June 16 or 17).
(Because of renovations to the front of the 2nd floor, you will need to use the back elevators for access.)
-- the Mini Learning Commons in the reference room will remain open (limited number of computers and a printer) until the 2nd floor lab is operational. It will be relocated to the back of the 2nd floor and should take 2 days to complete.
-- the front library entrance will be closed as of June 21 (subject to change). An entrance is being created on the west side of the library near the parking garage.

OCCS Lab & Mini Learning Commons moving
June 11th, 2010Construction activity for the coming Learning Commons is picking up. For you, our patrons, this means changes in where services and resources will be.
The OCCS computer lab located in the Perry Library will be open this weekend but will close on Monday, June 14th. The lab equipment and services will be relocated to the rear of the 2nd floor in the Perry Library and will once again be available for use on Wednesday, June 16th.
The Mini Learning Commons will close on Wednesday, June 16th, be relocated to the 2nd floor, and re-open on Friday, June 18th.
We will provide signs around the library for your assistance.

Learning Commons Overview - 6/7 or 6/8
June 4th, 2010Administrators and staff are invited to attend an overview of the new Learning Commons. This, the third Learning Commons Forum, is designed for staff who often interact with students, parents, and visitors and may be asked the question “What’s going on at the Library?”
Once completed, the Commons will impact the lives of many of our students:
- - the facility will be open long hours for their convenience
- - students will have collaborative spaces and technology
- - multi-media and production technologies will be available to enhance student work both inside and outside the classroom
- ... and much more
