Beginning at midnight on Monday, October 3rd, the Learning Commons @ Perry Library will expand to a full service and operating schedule, including 24 hour access Sunday through Thursday.

On Friday and Saturday, the Learning Commons will be open on the same schedule as Perry Library: Friday, 8am-7:30pm; Saturday, 9am-6pm.

For safety, access to the Learning Commons between 12am and 8am is restricted to current ODU students, faculty and staff. Access to all other areas of the library will be closed off at midnight.

Look for the opening of Einstein Bros. Bagels mid-October.

Students: You may now make online reservations for the group collaboration rooms in the Learning Commons @ Perry Library. Go to: http://apps.odu.edu/openroom/reservation_view.php or find the reservation form on the Learning Commons Web site.

Reservations may be made for the small and large group collaboration rooms and the presentation room. The multi-media room and GIS computing stations do not require reservations.

The Learning Commons @ Perry Library is now open, as of September 6, 2011, at 8:00 a.m.

Coming soon: The Multi-Media Innovation Lab, Writing Tutorial Services, the Math and Science Resource Center, and Einstein Bros. Café.

The Learning Commons will be open 24/5, Sunday through Thursday, after October 1, 2011, with Friday and Saturday hours remaining the same as for Perry Library.

In case you've been wondering... work continues as planned on the north and south additions to the Perry Library.

On the north addition -- Learning Commons:

-- finishing coats are being placed on the drywall partitions and soffits
-- the ceiling grid installation in the renovation/addition space is 2/3 complete
-- sprinkler work in the addition continues
-- other mechanical, electrical and plumbing installations continue and should be ready for inspection in May
-- roofing work will be completed in the next few weeks
-- work on the concrete patio for the café area has begun
-- fireproofing for the third floor infill continues

On the south addition -- Student Success Center:

-- BCOM( Bureau of Capital Outlay Management) inspection completed
-- paint, blinds and carpet on the 1st and 2nd floor rooms should be completed in two weeks
-- delivery and installation of doors should begin later this week
-- toilet partitions and accessories are being installed
-- fire alarm and air conditioning systems are being tested for startup
-- the water line to the building will soon be approved, with water available by 4/29
-- on the exterior, the courtyard has lights

Sometime in early Fall 2011, we will have two beautiful new spaces to serve ODU's students and faculty!!!

As a preview to the Learning Commons, Perry Library will provide iPads for loan to students, faculty and staff starting January 24. They will be available for one week loan periods. The iPads are offered to help increase student and faculty access to the latest information technology - in the context of learning, scholarship, and experimentation. Try an iPad! Find them at Perry Library’s 2nd floor circulation desk (3-4154).

Administrators and staff are invited to attend an overview of the new Learning Commons. This, the third Learning Commons Forum, is designed for staff who often interact with students, parents, and visitors and may be asked the question “What’s going on at the Library?”

Once completed, the Commons will impact the lives of many of our students:

• - the facility will be open long hours for their convenience
• - students will have collaborative spaces and technology
• - multi-media and production technologies will be available to enhance student work both inside and outside the classroom
• ... and much more
