The University Libraries have been working hard to migrate web content to the University's new system. It will happen soon! Please let us know what you think.
The Chronicle of Higher Education is the leading souce of news and commentary about the events, people, and issues shaping higher education. You can now read The Chronicle on your smartphone, tablet or iPad. Log in with your ODU email (no need for a proxy!) or download the app from the iTunes App Store.

The Interlibrary Loan office has relocated to the 3rd floor Digital Services Center. We anticipate the unit to remain at this location through the FY2015 academic year.
A friendly reminder! Books and other items on loan from ODU Libraries over the Spring Semester are due on May 20, 2014. These materials must be physically returned to the Libraries for check-in or for renewal. Questions? Please call 683-4154 or email: email@example.com.
You've probably noticed the Discovery Tool on the library's web site. It's a new customized searching experience that allows you to simultaneously search all of our EBSCO databases, our full library catalog, and other electronic resources, including those from other publisher packages.
We have also customized the Discovery Tool interface with direct links to our catalog, journals, databases, subject guides, and Ask-A-Librarian! Results from any electronic resource can be saved to a personal folder and viewed at a later time. For more information, contact a librarian using Ask-A-Librarian.
The University Libraries now offer mobile access to our online catalog. From your smartphone, you can search for items located in Perry Library, the Diehn Composers Room and the Hofheimer Art Library. The new mobile catalog also provides access to your library account, where you can view due dates, renew items and check the status of hold requests.
The mobile catalog also provides a link into the University Libraries mobile website, where you can see floor maps, search journal article databases and more. Add a bookmark for the site to your smartphone’s home screen today! Try it out from your smartphone now: http://iii.lib.odu.edu

ODU Libraries, a member of the Virtual Library of Virginia (VIVA), is pleased to announce a new VIVA initiative that provides students at all Virginia public and many Virginia nonprofit private institutions of higher education with immediate and on-demand access to thousands of e-books from premier publishers in the STEM-H (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics and Health) fields.
This initiative will support the efforts of Virginia higher education to increase the number of college graduates in STEM-H related fields, making Virginia’s workforce more ready than ever for the jobs of the future. It's called “demand-driven acquisitions,” and it will open access for students and faculty to a much larger collection of STEM-H books and materials than could be offered through the purchasing power of any single institution.
You will be able to find these titles in the ODU Online Catalog. However, only those books that you actually select to use will be paid for by VIVA. The purchased books will be added to the permanent collections of all the participating VIVA libraries and will remain a shared resource in perpetuity. The e-books may be downloaded in their entirety to many popular mobile devices, including tablets and e-book readers.
The addition of these collections was made possible through the generous support of Governor Bob McDonnell, Secretary of Education Laura Fornash, the State Council of Higher Education of Virginia, and funding appropriated by the General Assembly. For more information, contact Pamela Morgan, Collection Development Services Librarian, at 683-4148 or email@example.com.
