You've probably noticed the Discovery Tool on the library's web site. It's a new customized searching experience that allows you to simultaneously search all of our EBSCO databases, our full library catalog, and other electronic resources, including those from other publisher packages.
We have also customized the Discovery Tool interface with direct links to our catalog, journals, databases, subject guides, and Ask-A-Librarian! Results from any electronic resource can be saved to a personal folder and viewed at a later time. For more information, contact a librarian using Ask-A-Librarian.
The University Libraries now offer mobile access to our online catalog. From your smartphone, you can search for items located in Perry Library, the Diehn Composers Room and the Hofheimer Art Library. The new mobile catalog also provides access to your library account, where you can view due dates, renew items and check the status of hold requests.

Beginning on Monday, 8/26/13, ODU students, staff and faculty can make payments at the Perry Library Circulation Desk using Monarch Plus. Monarch Plus payments will be accepted for fines, fees, microform copies and network printing.
Monarch Plus is a prepaid debit account designed for the Old Dominion University Community. The account is placed directly on the University ID Card. Participation is open to any student, faculty, or staff member. Students, staff and faculty can add funds to their Monarch Plus accounts online or at the University Card Center in Webb.
Please note that Monarch Plus payments must be made in person. Payments to the Libraries are not accepted online or via telephone.

ODU Libraries, a member of the Virtual Library of Virginia (VIVA), is pleased to announce a new VIVA initiative that provides students at all Virginia public and many Virginia nonprofit private institutions of higher education with immediate and on-demand access to thousands of e-books from premier publishers in the STEM-H (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics and Health) fields.
This initiative will support the efforts of Virginia higher education to increase the number of college graduates in STEM-H related fields, making Virginia’s workforce more ready than ever for the jobs of the future. It's called “demand-driven acquisitions,” and it will open access for students and faculty to a much larger collection of STEM-H books and materials than could be offered through the purchasing power of any single institution.
You will be able to find these titles in the ODU Online Catalog. However, only those books that you actually select to use will be paid for by VIVA. The purchased books will be added to the permanent collections of all the participating VIVA libraries and will remain a shared resource in perpetuity. The e-books may be downloaded in their entirety to many popular mobile devices, including tablets and e-book readers.
The addition of these collections was made possible through the generous support of Governor Bob McDonnell, Secretary of Education Laura Fornash, the State Council of Higher Education of Virginia, and funding appropriated by the General Assembly. ODU Libraries is pleased to announce that, beginning Friday, January 11, 2013, ODU Monarch-Key username and password will serve as login for the ILLiad interlibrary loan and document delivery system. New registrants and past users with differing ILLiad and MIDAS-Key account usernames will be prompted to complete a short, one-time only registration form prior to submitting requests.

The University Libraries will undergo a system upgrade on Monday 10/8/12. This will be a significant upgrade scheduled to begin at approximately 11am EDT and is expected to last 6-8 hours.
During the system outage the following services will NOT be available:
• Online Libraries catalog
• Online and telephone renewal requests
• Express Lane self-checkout stations within Perry Library
• Fine and fee payment
• Hold functionality
• Reserve materials searching
During the system outage the following services WILL be available:
• Checkout and renewal of materials at service desks in Perry Library (including the Learning Commons) and at the Art Library and the Diehn Composers Room. Transactions will be processed manually and service may be slower than usual.
• Returns - any materials returned while the circulation system is down will be checked in with a return date of 10/8 once the system is restored. No fines will accrue on materials that are due on the 8th and returned while the circulation system is down.
• Libraries and Learning Commons Web sites, including full-text online journal resources (ScienceDirect, etc.), research databases and ILLiad interlibrary loan. Links to the ODU Libraries catalog will be disabled, making it more difficult during the outage to determine ownership of specific materials.

Effective July 2, 2012, the study rooms on floors 2-4 will move to the Learning Commons online reservation system.
Students will be able to reserve the room on the Learning Commons page or by using one of the room reservation kiosks (on the first and second floors). No more going to the Circulation desk to show an ID and pick up a key.
The policies that apply to the Learning Commons collaboration rooms will apply to the study rooms on floors 2-4 starting in July.
