If you are using computers in the 3rd floor Research Commons, you can now print to the 2nd floor computer lab printers using your student account. The benefit: 2nd floor computers are $.05/page; 3rd floor are $.10/page. Instructions are posted on all workstations.

Click “Subject Guides” on the library’s web site to find research guides created by subject-specialist librarians at the ODU Libraries. These guides will get you quickly to the best resources for your subject area.

Categories of resources vary depending on the subject area, but may include “Find Articles Using Databases,” “Find Books and Dissertations,” “Statistics and Data,” “General Reference Sources” – within these categories, you’ll find resources specific to your subject area. Another useful feature is the chat service on each guide – if the subject specialist is online, you’ll be able to chat immediately.

The Virginia Tidewater Consortium (VTC) for Higher Education is made up of the colleges and universities in the Tidewater area. ODU is part of this consortium.

The libraries of the VTC cooperate through a reciprocal borrowing program. ODU students, faculty and staff can borrow books from any of the VTC libraries. BUT, you need to have a consortium card. You may get this card from the Circulation Desk on the 2nd floor of Perry Library.

Audio-visual materials housed in Perry Library (DVDs, VHS, CDs) have been moved to the new reserve room adjacent to the 2nd floor circulation desk. The loan period for these materials is 1 week, and you can check out 3 at a time.

To find out what feature films we have in our collection, do an Advanced Keyword search in the "ODU Only Catalog" from the library's Web site:

1. In the “Any Field” box enter “feature films”
2. In the “Material Type” box select “FILMS & VIDEO”
3. Click the “Submit” button
4. On the results screen that follows you will probably want to change the “Sorted by…” option from “relevancy” to “title.” This will redisplay the results list in alphabetical order by title.

The library has over 1,000 feature films that can be checked out.

A friendly reminder! Books and other items on loan from the library over the Spring Semester are due on May 20, 2010. These materials must be physically returned to the library for renewal or check-in. You may bring materials to Perry Library or the art and music libraries in the Diehn Fine and Performing Arts Building. Questions? Call 683-4154.
