Christopher Lawton has joined the University Libraries as our new Science Reference Services Librarian. He has an M.S. in Library and Information Sciences from Syracuse University and a B.A. in Music with minors in Biology and English from Franklin Pierce University. While he was in library school he was the editor/blogger for the Hack Library School, a by-students, for-students blog focused on LIS education, and he served as a TA for multiple classes as well as being an administrative intern at Frederick County Public Library, Frederick, MD. He had several internships as well with the Capital Repertory Theater and Monadnock Music Festival while he was in his undergraduate program.

Ashley Brewer has joined us as Information Delivery Services Librarian. Ashley has an MLIS from the University of Washington and a BA in Theater from Stanford University, where she worked as the Weekend Supervisor at the Stanford University Art and Architecture Library. She has experience as a Web Content Manager, Database Research and Analysis Consultant, and Special Sales Assistant. Welcome, Ashley!!
The University Libraries and Friends of the ODU Libraries congratulate this year's Staff Member and Librarian of the Year.
Our Staff Member of the Year is Margaret Oliver. She is the library's Business Manager and has served the library since 2000. Kathryn Boone, our Librarian of the Year, is the Learning Commons Operations Manager and has served the library since 1983 in a variety of positions. Both are continuing their education at ODU: a degree in finance for Margaret, and a graduate certificate in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) for Kathryn.

Valentina Neblitt-Jones and Lucinda Rush joined the library faculty this week.
Ms. Neblitt-Jones is Head of the Systems Development Department. She comes to ODU from the U.S. Department of the Navy where she has been a Computer Scientist/Systems Engineer at the SPAWAR Systems Center Atlantic since 2006. Prior to working for the Navy, Valentina worked here at Perry Library as a Government Publications Assistant and at various public libraries in Virginia. She has her MSLIS from Florida State University, her BS in Computer Science from Old Dominion University, and her BA in International Studies from Virginia Tech.
Ms. Rush is Education Services Reference Librarian and comes to us from Coastal Carolina University where she worked as a Weekend Circulation Supervisor and Reference and Outreach Librarian. Previously, she served as an Intern at the Horry County Memorial Library System and as an Adjunct Instructor for the Horry-Georgetown Technical College in Conway, SC. She has her MLIS from the University of South Carolina, a Master of Music Education from Shenandoah University, and a BA in Music from Longwood University.

George Fowler joined the staff of the ODU Libraries as Associate University Librarian for Information Resources & Technology. He comes to ODU from University of Arkansas where he served as Head, Library Systems Department since 2006. Prior to Arkansas, he worked at Temple University, and Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. He has also served as a commissioned officer in the U.S. Army in Iraq and in the National Guard in New Jersey. He has his MS in Library Science and a BS in Information Science from the University of North Texas.

Joleen Westerdale joined the staff of the ODU Libraries as Instructional Services Librarian. Prior to coming to ODU, Ms. Westerdale worked at Keene State College in New Hampshire as a contract lecturer in reference and information services. She has been a reference and information services librarian at Emerson College Library, Salem State College Library, Simmons College’s Beatley Library, Washington University‘s Olin Library, and Emmanuel College’s Cardinal Cushing Library. She received her MLIS from the Simmons College in Boston, an MFA in Creative Writing from University of Massachusetts- Boston, and her BA in German Literature from University of Massachusetts-Boston.
