Be sure to try them out before the dates listed above. There is no guarantee that we will be able to acquire them. But while we have trial access, please use them and let us know what you think. Your opinion matters. We want to know what you think of the resources and if they would support your learning, teaching, or research at ODU.

Celebrating National Friends of the Library Week
October 20th, 2011The Friends of the Old Dominion University Libraries are celebrating National Friends of the Library Week during October 16-22nd with a display in the Learning Commons @ Perry Library. This display highlights the benefits of membership in the Friends of the ODU Libraries and acknowledges the support the Friends give us.
On display, for borrowing, are a selection of recent books that the Friends have purchased for the libraries. Their generous support also includes funding the Worldcat Local database accessible from the libraries homepage: http://www.lib.odu.edu

EndNote Workshop Saturday

Learn how to collect citations from the library’s database and export them into EndNote, a powerful tool for organizing and managing bibliographic citations. Grad Workshop: Social Sciences & Business
October 16th, 2011On Wednesday, October 19, 4:00 pm–5:30 pm, come to the Learning Commons Instruction Room 1306 for the "Social Sciences & Business Literature Review & Introduction to EndNote" workshop.
Meet the Social Sciences and Business Reference Librarians and get tips on how to do a thorough literature review using the library’s subscription research databases. Learn more about searching the databases which provide access to thousands of articles, dissertations, government publications, statistics and other resources, then use EndNote to manage your citations.

Minecraft Learning Commons
October 11th, 2011A virtual, 1:1 reproduction of the Learning Commons @ Perry Library has been constructed using Minecraft, a popular indie computer game. For information about how to access the Minecraft Learning Commons or to take a video tour, visit http://www.lib.odu.edu/minecraft/

Learning Commons hours
October 11th, 2011The Learning Commons @ Perry Library is now open 24/5 -- it stays open from Sundays at 9am through Fridays at 7:30pm. On Saturdays, the Learning Commons is open on the same schedule as Perry Library, 9am-6pm.
For safety, access to the Learning Commons between 12am and 8am is restricted to current ODU students, faculty and staff. Access to all other areas of the library will be closed off at midnight.
Einstein Bros. Bagels Express will open on Wednesday October 12!!
EndNote Workshop - Thursday

Media:scape demonstrations
October 10th, 2011Two media:scape stations are part of the Learning Commons @ Perry Library. A media:scape allows up to six users to display their laptop screens on one large flat-screen monitor. If you're working with a group and sharing documents, images, Web sites, etc, anyone in the group can send their screen easily to the group monitor.
Representatives from Steelcase will be in the Learning Commons Thursday and Friday (10/13-14) from 10am-2pm. Stop by to get some tips on how to use this technology to collaborate more effectively.

October 10th, 2011Perry Library and the Learning Commons will be open the following hours during Fall break:
October 8 (Sat): 9am - 6pm
October 9 (Sun): 9am - 8pm
October 10 (Mon): 8am - 8pm
October 11 (Tues): opens at 8am (all night hours resume)
Fall break hours for the Diehn Composers Room and Hofheimer Art Library:
October 8 (Sat): 1pm - 5pm
October 9 (Sun): CLOSED
October 10 (Mon): 8am - 5pm
October 11 (Tues): regular hours resume (8am - 9pm)

Learning Commons - all night!
October 3rd, 2011Beginning at midnight on Monday, October 3rd, the Learning Commons @ Perry Library will expand to a full service and operating schedule, including 24 hour access Sunday through Thursday.
On Friday and Saturday, the Learning Commons will be open on the same schedule as Perry Library: Friday, 8am-7:30pm; Saturday, 9am-6pm.
For safety, access to the Learning Commons between 12am and 8am is restricted to current ODU students, faculty and staff. Access to all other areas of the library will be closed off at midnight.
Look for the opening of Einstein Bros. Bagels mid-October.
