The Library has just added two new database subscriptions:
The Times Digital Archive, 1785-1985
Contains full facsimile images of either a specific article or a complete page from The Times (London). The entire newspaper is captured, with all articles, advertisements and illustrations/photos divided into categories to facilitate searching.
Sabin Americana, 1500-1926
Contains books, pamphlets, serials and other documents about the Americas that provide original accounts of exploration, trade, colonialism, slavery and abolition, the western movement, Native Americans, military actions and much more. Based on Joseph Sabin's landmark bibliography, this collection is a cornerstone in the study of the western hemisphere.
Access these databases from the library's "Find Databases A-Z" link by title or subject.
Construction activity for the coming Learning Commons is picking up. For you, our patrons, this means changes in where services and resources will be.
The OCCS computer lab located in the Perry Library will be open this weekend but will close on Monday, June 14th. The lab equipment and services will be relocated to the rear of the 2nd floor in the Perry Library and will once again be available for use on Wednesday, June 16th.
The Mini Learning Commons will close on Wednesday, June 16th, be relocated to the 2nd floor, and re-open on Friday, June 18th.
We will provide signs around the library for your assistance.
Thank you for your patience during this development.
Administrators and staff are invited to attend an overview of the new Learning Commons. This, the third Learning Commons Forum, is designed for staff who often interact with students, parents, and visitors and may be asked the question “What’s going on at the Library?”
Once completed, the Commons will impact the lives of many of our students:
- - the facility will be open long hours for their convenience
- - students will have collaborative spaces and technology
- - multi-media and production technologies will be available to enhance student work both inside and outside the classroom
- ... and much more
Please join us for one of the following sessions:
- - Monday, June 7- Virginia Rice Webb Room (Webb Center); 10–11am
- - Tuesday, June 8 - Portsmouth/Virginia Beach Room (Webb Center); 3–4pm
NO REGISTRATION REQUIRED

Come visit the lobby of the Perry Library to view the interesting array of books selected by our student assistants. Student assistants are an integral part of the library staff. The library's Student Appreciation Month is April-May. In addition to a special luncheon, student assistants are also given the opportunity to select a book from our general collection and have a bookplate with their name placed permanently inside the front cover. The chosen books are on display in the lobby of Perry Library through the end of May. A special thank-you to each and every one of them.
Construction for the library's Learning Commons has begun. The parking lot directly in front of the Perry Library has been closed. An interim library entrance is being created on the west side of the library.
2nd floor renovation work has begun:
* Access to 2nd floor stacks from the atrium area is no longer available; use the back elevators or central stairwell.
* The microforms unit is still open and accessible.
* Access to the library administration office suite via the 2nd floor atrium is available.
If you have questions relating to 2nd floor access, contact Stuart Frazer email@example.com
