Media:scape demonstrations
October 10th, 2011Two media:scape stations are part of the Learning Commons @ Perry Library. A media:scape allows up to six users to display their laptop screens on one large flat-screen monitor. If you're working with a group and sharing documents, images, Web sites, etc, anyone in the group can send their screen easily to the group monitor.
Representatives from Steelcase will be in the Learning Commons Thursday and Friday (10/13-14) from 10am-2pm. Stop by to get some tips on how to use this technology to collaborate more effectively.
Fall break hours for University Libraries
October 10th, 2011Perry Library and the Learning Commons will be open the following hours during Fall break:
October 8 (Sat): 9am - 6pm
October 9 (Sun): 9am - 8pm
October 10 (Mon): 8am - 8pm
October 11 (Tues): opens at 8am (all night hours resume)
Fall break hours for the Diehn Composers Room and Hofheimer Art Library:
October 8 (Sat): 1pm - 5pm
October 9 (Sun): CLOSED
October 10 (Mon): 8am - 5pm
October 11 (Tues): regular hours resume (8am - 9pm)

Learning Commons - all night!
October 3rd, 2011Beginning at midnight on Monday, October 3rd, the Learning Commons @ Perry Library will expand to a full service and operating schedule, including 24 hour access Sunday through Thursday.
On Friday and Saturday, the Learning Commons will be open on the same schedule as Perry Library: Friday, 8am-7:30pm; Saturday, 9am-6pm.
For safety, access to the Learning Commons between 12am and 8am is restricted to current ODU students, faculty and staff. Access to all other areas of the library will be closed off at midnight.
Look for the opening of Einstein Bros. Bagels mid-October.
Come to the Literary Festival
September 30th, 2011The University's 34th Annual Literary Festival begins Monday October 3. Be sure to take advantage of this opportunity to hear from some incredible writers and artists.

Reserve a collaboration room
September 28th, 2011Students: You may now make online reservations for the group collaboration rooms in the Learning Commons @ Perry Library. Go to: http://apps.odu.edu/openroom/reservation_view.php or find the reservation form on the Learning Commons Web site.
Reservations may be made for the small and large group collaboration rooms and the presentation room. The multi-media room and GIS computing stations do not require reservations.
Workshop on Science & Engineering Databases
September 27th, 2011"Revisiting Some Popular Databases in the Sciences & Engineering" is a graduate workshop to be held on Saturday, October 1, 10:00 am–11:30 am in the Learning Commons Instruction Room 1306.
The University Libraries have access to many electronic databases in the sciences and engineering. This workshop will highlight some of the most popular and heavily used databases and describe new and improved features that allow students to gather more in-depth information in an efficient and effective manner.

Faculty/Grad Student Workshop: Google Maps & Georeferencing
September 24th, 2011Faculty and Graduate Students are invited to attend a workshop on Friday, September 30, 11:00 am–12:00 pm. "An Introduction to Google Maps and Georeferencing" will explore the possibilities of customized Google Maps. We’ll look at examples of educational applications of Google Maps and show you how to create your own maps that seamlessly integrate images and information with geographic locations. We’ll also briefly discuss geotagging, geocaching, and other mobile GPS applications.

EndNote Workshop Saturday
September 19th, 2011Graduate Students & Faculty: Come to the Learning Commons Instruction Room 1306 on Saturday, September 24, 10:30am–12:00pm, for a workshop on "Using EndNote with Library Databases."
Learn how to collect citations from the library’s database and export them into EndNote, a powerful tool for organizing and managing bibliographic citations. Both desktop and web versions will be included. If you bring your own laptop, we ask that you already have Endnote downloaded.
