Final Recommendations Of The Interagency Ocean Policy Task Force

President Obama signed an Executive Order establishing a National Policy for the Stewardship of the Ocean, Coasts, and Great Lakes on July 19, 2010. That Executive Order adopts the Final Recommendations of the Interagency Ocean Policy Task Force and directs Federal agencies to take the appropriate steps to implement them.

America's Children in Brief: Key National Indicators of Well-Being, 2010

"This year's report reveals that health insurance coverage rates for children increased, the percentage of preterm births declined for the second straight year, average 8th-grade mathematics scores reached an all-time high, teen smoking was at its lowest since data collection began, and the adolescent birth rate declined after a 2-year increase. However, the percentage of children whose parents had secure employment was the lowest since 1996, and the percentage living in poverty was the highest since 1998. The percentage of children in food-insecure households was the highest since monitoring began. The Brief concludes with a summary table displaying recent changes in all 40 indicators."

State and Local Area Data Books

The data found in the State and Local Area Web site is provided by two Census Bureau publications, the State and Metropolitan Area Data Book and the County and City Data Book. They are convenient statistical summaries of the social and economic structure of states, metropolitan and micropolitan areas, counties, cities, and places in the United States.

American Time Use Survey

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) has released 2009 results from the American Time Use Survey. These data include the average amount of time per day in 2009 that individuals worked, did household activities, and engaged in leisure and sports activities. Additionally, measures of the average time per day spent providing childcare--both as a primary (or main)activity and while doing other things--for the combined years 2005-09 are provided.

From the Press Release: "The Easter Offensive, and its ramifications, represents the most significant event in Indochina for U.S. policy in this period, and documentary coverage of the event dominates the volume, concentrating mainly on what happened in North and South Vietnam, policy formulation and decision making in Washington, and the negotiations in Paris. Only a very small number of documents relate to events and policy in Laos and Cambodia, and then only as they relate to events and policy in Vietnam."

Public School Graduates and Dropouts From the Common Core of Data: School Year 2007–08

This report presents the number of high school graduates, the Averaged Freshman Graduation Rate, and the dropout data for public schools in school year 2007–08. The counts of graduates, dropouts, and enrollments by grade are from the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) Common Core of Data (CCD) nonfiscal surveys of public elementary/secondary education.

Expenditures on Children by Families (what it costs to raise a child)

From the press release - USDA's new annual report, Expenditures on Children by Families, finds that a middle-income family with a child born in 2009 can expect to spend about $222,360 ($286,050 if inflation is factored in) for food, shelter, and other necessities to raise that child over the next 17 years. This represents less than a 1 percent increase from 2008, the smallest increase this decade, which likely reflects the state of the economy.

The Beige Book - Federal Reserve

From the Summary: "Economic activity continued to improve since the last report across all twelve Federal Reserve Districts, although many Districts described the pace of growth as "modest." Consumer spending and tourism activity generally increased. Business spending also rose, on net, with employment and capital spending edging up but inventory investment slowing. By sector, nonfinancial services, manufacturing, and transportation continued to gradually improve."

Warmest April Global Temperature on Record

The combined global land and ocean surface temperature was the warmest on record for both April and for the period from January-April, according to NOAA. Additionally, last month’s average ocean surface temperature was the warmest on record for any April, and the global land surface temperature was the third warmest on record.
