| Kaleidoscope: The Musical World of Adolphus Hailstork |
The Old Dominion University Libraries have established a series of concerts and exhibitions in order to raise awareness of the rich music composition heritage in Virginia, specifically Hampton Roads, and to showcase the resources in ODU's Diehn Composers Room. Materials in this exhibit are from Adolphus Hailstork; Old Dominion University Library's F. Ludwig Diehn Composers Room; and the University of Virginia. All materials have been used by permission. This exhibit was made possible by a grant from The Norfolk Foundation.
The audio selections of this exhibit have been converted into realaudio format and are streamed to provide immediate listening capabilities. The realaudio player is required.
A parent exhibition of realia and concert of works fostered the development of this online exhibit. The realia exhibition and all of its peripheral documentation was designed and produced by Karen Meizner, Special Projects Librarian. Dr. Adolphus Hailstork was the music director for the accompanying concert while Charles Hillen, Library Specialist, produced the concert and the online exhibit. Elizabeth Hogue, Humanities Reference Librarian, designed the invitations, performed much research, and edited much of the written documentation. Amy Douglas, Library Assistant, served as Public Relations Coordinator and provided clerical support in every regard.
This event was inspired by Dr. Jean A. Major, University Librarian of Old Dominion University Libraries, who also sought and acquired grant funding. Virginia O'Herron, Assistant University Librarian for Information Services, ensured that all deadlines were met and coordinated all projects at the administrative level.
