This Amen, composed in 1981, is exemplary
of the kinds of introductions, scored prayers for the church service, interludes,
and other punctuational sacred music that is frequently found in Dr. Davis'
manuscripts. |

The text of Lord, With A Glowing Heart
was written by Francis Scott Key and set to music by Vernon Perdue Davis
in 1984. This song, written in a medium vocal range, expresses religious
devotion and a desire for worthiness. This lovely melody has a particularly
lyrical quality and is reminiscent of a 19th century art song. |

This Bagatelle is one of a set called
"Last Bagatelles" which contains sixteen solo piano pieces that are dedicated
to different people. This work, written in 1987, was dedicated to Lee Anderson
Orr, Esq. Dr. Orr was a piano student of Dr. Davis' at Southwestern (now
Rhodes College in Memphis, Tennessee). After accepting a position as Professor
of English at Virginia Wesleyan College, Professor Orr would often visit
Dr. Davis in Richmond and they would play piano four-hand music together. |
