Modulator
This device modulates the amplitude of the laser beam, similarly to how AM radio stations work. This will encode the laser beam with a signal that carries the video information.

Interrupter
This slow-turning motor will break the plane of the laser periodically. When this happens the video on the monitor will cut out. This shows that the laser, not a hidden cable, is carrying the video signal. |
Receiver
The receiver interprets the video signal from the laser and outputs it to the monitor.

Camera
Video captured by the camera is sent through the laser to the monitor.
