Donna L. Koch, wife of Old Dominion University's President James Koch, is a founding member of the Friends of the Library steering committee. This group provides volunteer, promotional, and financial support to the library. Additionally, she is a board member and past president of the Dwelling Place Homeless Shelter, one of the original founding board members of the Elizabeth River Project, and a member of the Leadership Support Committee of the Virginia Synod of the Lutheran Church. As the wife of the President she is involved in many activities on campus, as well. 

In addition to all these activities, Koch is completing her thesis for a master's degree in history at Old Dominion. Previously, she earned graduate and undergraduate degrees from Illinois State University. Koch presently serves as Administrative Assistant to the President of Tidewater Community College and has taught history and English at the Chesapeake campus. In recognition of her community service work, Koch was awarded the YWCA Women of Distinction Award (1996) and the Cox Cable Great Citizen of Hampton Roads Award (1994).
