Example broad topic: I'm interested in nonverbal communication, but I'm not sure how to narrow the topic.

NONVERBAL COMMUNICATION

Who?	Are you interested in a particular population, person, gender, etc associated with the topic?	Teenage girls
What?	Is there a behavior, attitude, event, or other interesting aspect of the topic?	Bullying; aggressive behavior
When?	Is there a time period that might relate to the topic?	Recent, but it doesn’t matter
Where?	Is there a geographic location that could be associated with the topic?	US, but international comparison might be interesting
Why?	Why is the topic important – social/ethical/legal/etc implications?	Social and psychological implications
