Search Engines with a Scholarly Focus

Some search engines have an academic audience as their focus. They use people, rather than spiders and robots, to evaluate and gather Web sites. For example, "Librarians’ Index to the Internet" and "Infomine" use editors to select the websites based on their academic usefulness.

Generally, the academic search engines don’t accept sponsored sites.

Some you might want to be familiar with are:

Infomine: a directory of scholarly search engines.
Scout Report Archives: extensive list of carefully selected Web sites and mailing lists by subject with critical annotations

Academic Info: Browse or search for Internet resources that are directed toward an academic audience.

Internet Public Library: Use "Resources by Subject" to find many quality Internet resources on your topic.

Yahoo and Google both have subject directories that can provide useful, academic Internet resources.

You will also find web sources on the library Subject Guide for your topic.
