Help - Remote Access |
Personal firewall software seeks to control communication between your computer and others on a network such as the internet. This control usual involves security policies and security certificates.
Windows XP comes with its own personal firewall. Makers of virus detection software such as Norton and McAfee also provide personal firewall software that often is bundled on new computers.
While personal firewall software is beneficial in protecting against malicious activity it can sometime pose problems for systems, such as the ODU libraries authentication system, that function as a proxy. If you have personal firewall software installed and experience problems accessing library resources you may try turning it off while using the library's site and then turning it back on afterwards.
