COMMUNICATION RESEARCH METHODS -- COMM 302

Off–Campus Access:

When you select an electronic resource (database, journal, etc.) from off campus, you will be prompted to enter your student ID number. Use your 8 digit University ID Number (UIN). * For Finding Background Information:

- Consult Reference Materials:   Encyclopedias, Dictionaries, Manuals, Handbooks, etc.
- Call Number Category for Communication and Mass Media: P 87-96 (also, BF=Psychology; HM-HX=Sociology, etc).
- Use electronic general reference materials from the Library's General Reference Sources page.
- Try the Visual Communication Concept Explorer through ComAbstracts for research ideas.

* For Finding Books and Primary Sources:

- Use the ODU Library Online Catalog to find out what books ODU library owns.
- Use WorldCat or Books In Print to identify other relevant book materials and who owns them (Worldcat).
- Use Other Library Catalogs (Virginia Tidewater Consortium) to find out what's in the area.
- Use Interlibrary Loan to obtain materials we don't own.

* FOR FINDING PERIODICAL ARTICLES:

- Consult "Databases" option by subject. For communications, try:

ComAbstracts  -- Contains abstracts of articles published in the primary professional literature of the communication(s) field.
PsycINFO -- Covers all behavioral science and related disciplines, with selected full-text.
General Onefile  -- Covers all subjects, with selected full-text.
LexisNexis Academic -- Provides full-text articles from news, business, legal, medical and reference publications.

- Click "Check for Full Text" or "Article Linker" for full-text availability.
- If not available through the database, consult Journals, Magazines, Newspapers by title -- print and electronic.
- Consult Other Library Catalogs for journals locally.
- Use WorldCat to identify journal availability throughout the world.
- Use Interlibrary Loan to obtain journal articles we don't own.
