Off–Campus Access:

When you select an electronic resource (database, journal, etc.) from off campus, you will be prompted to enter your student ID number. Use your 8 digit University ID Number (UIN). Key Resources:

* Library Catalog : Search the catalog for books, journals, microfilms, and government documents.

* WorldCat : Contains millions of records of all types of materials worldwide including archival materials. Indicates which libraries own the materials.

* Interlibrary Loan (To request books and articles that are not available at ODU Libraries)

ILLiad: Users must first register as an ODU patron, then select the type of item you wish to request, and fill in as much information as you know about the requested item.

  • Black Death: Sources Concerning the European Plague
  • Early American Imprints: (aka Evans Imprints) Collections that are individually cataloged of books, pamphlets, and periodical publications printed in the U.S. from 1639-1820.
  • Library of American Civilization: Ultrafiche collection that are individually cataloged materials realting to virtually all aspects of American life and literature up to W.W.I.

America: History and Life Indexes journal articles on the history of the United States and Canada from prehistory to the present.
Historical Abstracts Indexes books and journal articles published 1960 and later for historical coverage of the world from 1450 to contemporary times. (Does not include United States and Canada)
JSTOR Fulltext database of older scholarly journal articles, many dating back to the 1880's.
Project Muse Fulltext database of scholarly journals 1995 to present.

American Periodicals Series Over 1,100 fulltext periodicals published between 1740-1900 - keyword searchable.
British Periodicals Collection Over 160 fulltext journals from the late 1700's -1800's.
C19: The Nineteenth Century Includes the Nineteenth Century Short Title Catalog, the Wellesley Index to Victorian Periodicals, and Palmer's Index to the Times (London).
HarpWeek Full image reproduction of Harper's Weekly 1857-77 including illustrations, cartoons, literature and ads.
U.S. Congressional Serial Set 1817-1906 Digital version of all the reports, documents and journals of the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives - provides a wealth of primary source material on all aspects of American History.
