  • Boston University - 1998

    US District Court judge dismissed suit to shut down 8 paper mills. Selling research over the Web is not fraud; students commit fraud.

  • California Legal Code

    (Education Code 66400-66405) Prohibits selling of term papers, theses, etc. Sixteen other states have adopted similar laws (source: Shasta College plagiarism site)

  • Rutgers University

    Prof. Donald L. McCabe studied 500 middle and high school students. Half felt it was okay to have parents do their homework. See U.S. News & World Report, 127.20 (1999):55.

  • University of Virginia

    Physics Prof. Louis Bloomfield used software to detect plagiarism. Results released in May 2001: 122 students accused of possible plagiarism. UVa's Code of Ethics was not deterrent enough.
