| Chapter 3.1: How do I Know What Articles
Have Been Published? |
There are several ways to find articles:
- If you already have a recent book on a subject in hand the bibliography
probably cites the articles the book's author(s) used.
- If you already know the names of periodicals that publish articles
on a subject you can browse recent issues.
- If you are not sure where articles on a subject may have appeared
you can use a database (called an index)
specially designed to help people find articles in that subject area.
Indexes provide citations and often include a summary (abstract) of
each article. In some cases, an index may offer fulltext articles directly
via computer.
A few of the best known criminal justice periodicals are:
- Crime and Delinquency
- Criminology
- FBI Law Enforcement Bulletin
- Federal Probation
- Journal of Criminal Justice
- Journal of Criminal Law and Criminology
- Journal of Research in Crime and Delinquency
- Justice Quarterly
