Tools to help you find government documents

You may need to use different kinds of resources to help locate government documents. Current materials may be available full-text on the web. However, older materials still require paper indexes and often help by staff. Here are a few of the tools you may need:

  • Library Web Guide to Government Information (virtual information)
  • Library catalog (documents from 1990 - to present)
  • Marcive (for documents from 1976-to present)
  • Print indexes for historic materials prior to 1976 (Use the Monthly Catalog)
  • Reference staff (it's always a good idea to ask for help, especially with older publications)
