8a. Evaluating Resources

Isn't everything on the web good stuff?

There is a misconception that if something is on the Web it is "good stuff" just because it exists online.

Librarians use a method of critical analysis to determine the value of a particular book or journal title that is added to the library collection. Unfortunately, the explosion of Web pages on any topic allows anyone with unknown qualifications to become authors.

It is estimated that more than ten million people in the world create material for the Web and that Web content doubles about every eight months.

A Good Place To Start - Learn to question everything!

Here are 5 questions to ask when evaluating web resources

Who? -> What? -> Where? -> When? -> How?
