==>  GOOD NEWS!! - WEB OF SCIENCE NOW BACK TO 1975

The library is pleased to announce that our subscription to Web of Science
now goes back to 1975.  Web of Science is the online equivalent to the
Science Citation Index and the Social Sciences Citation Index.  In addition
to keyword access to articles from the top journals in the sciences and
social sciences, you can also perform cited reference searching to navigate
forward, backward, and through the literature, searching all disciplines
and time spans to uncover all the information relevant to your research.

Access Web of Science from the library's "Databases" page by title or
subject. Because WoS is available through library subscription, IP address
restrictions apply: from off campus, you'll need to enter your Campus UIN
at the Easy Proxy page.  Contact Karen Vaughan kvaughan@odu.edu with

==> TRAINING FOR FACTIVA, ABI INFORM, DISSERTATIONS & THESES FULL TEXT --

On May 11, faculty, staff and grad students are invited to learn, from a
ProQuest trainer, effective use of three key databases to which the library
subscribes. Times listed below (except for the 9:30 one) are approximate.
The sessions will be held in Perry Library 163.  To register or for more

9:30-10:45 AM - Factiva [Provides current and retrospective news stories,
periodical articles, and company and industry financial data from several
thousand sources covering virtually every subject category.]

11:00 AM-12:30 PM - ABI Inform [Business and management related full-text
articles from North American and worldwide research. Includes information
on 60,000 companies.] and Dissertations and Theses Full Text [Contains more
than 600,000 full-text doctoral dissertations and master's theses. Also
indexes dissertations and theses back to 1861]

==>  NEW PROJECT MUSE TITLE:  "ASIAN MUSIC"

      * "Asian Music," the journal of the Society for Asian Music, is the
leading journal devoted to ethnomusicology in Asian music, publishing all
aspects of the performing arts of Asia and their cultural context.

To access this and other Project Muse journals, click "Project Muse" on the
library's "Journals, Magazines, Newspapers" page or search by individual
journal title. Because Project Muse is available through the Virtual
Library of Virginia (VIVA), IP address restrictions apply: from off campus,
you'll need to enter your Campus UIN at the Easy Proxy page.

The Perry Library will be open the following hours during the month of May

   Monday-Tuesday, May 2-3:  8am - 2am
   Wednesday-Friday, May 4-6: Regular Hours
   Saturday-Sunday, May 7-8:  CLOSED
   Monday, May 9:  Summer Hours Begin
       (for summer hours, see "Hours" under
       "About ODU Libraries" on the library's Web site)
   Monday, May 30: Closed (Holiday, Memorial Day)

==>  REMINDER TO RETURN OR RENEW LIBRARY MATERIALS

Do you have library materials with a due date of May 2005?  If so, please
return or renew them no later than Monday, May 16.  (Journals and reserve
items are not renewable.)  Renewed materials will be due January 10, 2006.

For items due in May 2005 but returned later than May 16, fines will accrue
at a rate of $0.10 per item per day.

==>  STUDENT ASSISTANT BOOK EXHIBIT IN THE PERRY LIBRARY LOBBY

Over 80 students work in the University Libraries and are an integral part
of our staff.  April is the library's Student Appreciation Month.  In
addition to a special luncheon, student assistants are also given the
opportunity to select a book from our general collection and have a
bookplate with their name placed permanently inside the front cover.  The
chosen books are on display in the lobby of Perry Library from mid-April
through mid-May.  Come on over and visit the lobby of the Perry Library to
view the interesting array of books selected by our student assistants.  A
special thank-you to each and every one of them.
