LIBNEWS-L: New Resources and Services at Old Dominion University Libraries November 29, 2005 * Enhancements to PsycINFO * New Project Muse Journals: "Journal of the Royal Musical Association" and "Film History: An International Journal" ==> ENHANCEMENTS TO PSYCINFO PsycINFO, from the American Psychological Association (APA), contains more than 2 million citations and summaries of scholarly journal articles, book chapters, books, and dissertations, all in psychology and related disciplines, dating as far back as the 1800s. The database also includes information about the psychological aspects of related fields such as medicine, psychiatry, nursing, sociology, education, pharmacology, physiology, linguistics, anthropology, business, law and others. Journal coverage, which spans 1887 to present, includes international material selected from nearly 2,000 periodicals in more than 25 languages. Available to us through EbscoHOST, PsycINFO has recently added several enhancements. * New or revised limiters: -- Publication Type. You may limit your search to Journal, Book, Encyclopedia, Dissertation Abstract or Electronic Collection. Journals can be further limited to "peer-reviewed" or "non-peer-reviewed," while books can be limited to "authored" or "edited." -- Document Type. A drop down list allows you to limit your search to Abstract Collection, Bibliography, Column/Opinion, Comment/Reply, Editorial, Encyclopedia Entry, Erratum/Correction, Letter, Obituary, Original Chapter, Original Journal Article, Publication Information, Reprinted Chapter, Reprinted Journal Article, Review. -- Book Type. This new limiter allows you to search for books only and to narrow that search to include only Classic Books, Conference Proceedings, Handbooks/Manuals, or Reference Books, or Textbooks/Study Guides. -- Methodology Type. Search for a specific category of research study, including Clinical Case Study, Empirical Study, Experimental Replication, Followup Study, Longitudinal Study, Prospective Study, Retrospective Study, Field Study, Literature Review, Mathematical Modeling, Meta Analysis, Nonclinical Case Study, Qualitative Study, Quantitative Study, Treatment Outcome/Clinical Trial -- Classification Codes. This limiter allows you to search using a full drop down list of all 157 APA number codes and descriptions for areas of psychological study. * If you use the "Index Browse" option, you'll notice some additional indexes: Book Type, Document Type, Methodology, Publication Type, Tests and Measures. Its editorial policy is to publish outstanding articles in fields ranging from historical and critical musicology to theory and analysis, ethnomusicology, and popular music studies. The journal works to disseminate knowledge across the discipline and communicate specialist perspectives to a broad readership, while maintaining the highest scholarly standards. * "Film History" focuses on the historical development of the motion picture and the social, technological, and economic context in which this has occurred. Its areas of interest range from the technical and entrepreneurial innovations of the early and pre-cinema experiments, through all aspects of the production, distribution, exhibition, and reception of commercial and non-commercial motion pictures.
