LIBNEWS-L: New Resources and Services at Old Dominion University Libraries January 10, 2006 W E L C O M E B A C K ! ! ! * New Databases: Digital National Security Archive and Two Sage Full-Text Collections * Surf & Turf Sessions Underway * Graduate Student Workshops: Essential Library Services - Put the Library To Work For You! * The Library Will Be Closed January 16 ==> NEW DATABASES: DIGITAL NATIONAL SECURITY ARCHIVE AND TWO NEW SAGE FULL-TEXT COLLECTIONS * The Digital National Security Archive provides a comprehensive collection of primary documents, including more than 58,000 of the most important declassified documents regarding critical U.S. policy decisions. There are 26 complete collections, each offering specialized insights. * Management & Organization Studies: A SAGE Full-Text Collection includes the full text of 38 journals published by SAGE and participating societies. Some journals go back 57 years, encompassing over 10,000 articles. * Political Science: A SAGE Full-Text Collection includes the full-text of 25 journals published by SAGE and participating societies. Some journals go back 24 years, encompassing over 10,000 articles. Access these new databases from the library's Web site under "Databases" and then either by title or subject category. Because they are subscription-based, IP address restrictions apply: from home, you'll need to enter your Campus UIN at the Easy Proxy page. ==> SURF & TURF SESSIONS UNDERWAY The library's Surf & Turf sessions have begun. They are available to ODU faculty, staff, and students with no registration necessary. Just meet in the lobby on designated days at 12:30pm. The sessions are intended for interested individuals, not whole classes. In "Surf" sessions on Tuesdays, January 10 and 17, you will learn some of the basic techniques for searching the library catalog, the Internet and research databases. In "Turf" sessions on Thursdays, January 12 and 19, you will see key areas of the library and learn how to use them. ==> GRADUATE STUDENT WORKSHOPS: ESSENTIAL LIBRARY SERVICES - PUT THE LIBRARY TO WORK FOR YOU! Are you a graduate assistant with questions about many of the tasks you've been assigned? Let us help you find the answers! This workshop for graduate research and teaching assistants will cover how to take advantage of important library services, including how to: Obtain materials requested by your professor Obtain materials not owned by the library Charge copying to departments or grants Borrow materials in your professor's name Place material on course reserve Contact the library for the help you need Choose whichever session is the most convenient for you.
