Temporary scanning services have been set up in Room 163 on the 1st floor. Call the Reference Desk 683-4178 for room availability (between 8am and 4pm M-F), or call Karen Vaughan 683-4184 for more information. Re-carpeting of Special Collections should begin sometime the week of February 13. ---------------------------------------------------- ==> REGISTER NOW FOR THE GRADUATE STUDENT WORKSHOP THIS SATURDAY (FEBRUARY 11) This Saturday (2/11/06) is the graduate student workshop "Becoming Expert at Using Research Databases." To register, contact Cynthia Swaine at cswaine@odu.edu or 683-4185. The workshop is from 9:30-11:30am in Library, Room 163. Come and learn advanced techniques for use with research databases to find the information you need. The library subscribes to some 200 such databases. -------------------------------------------------------- ==> FRIENDS OF THE ODU LIBRARY PANEL DISCUSSION -- "IRAQ, GUANTANAMO AND HUMAN RIGHTS" -- FEBRUARY 23, 2006 The Friends of the ODU Library invite you to attend a panel discussion -- "Iraq, Guantanamo and Human Rights" -- prior to the President’s Lecture Series presentation on the same subject by Terry Waite, Anglican Churchman. Panel Members are: * Kurt Taylor Gaubatz, associate professor with the Department of Political Science and Geography and the Graduate Program in International Studies at Old Dominion University * Lucien X. Lombardo, professor of Sociology and Criminal Justice at Old Dominion University * Dale E. Miller, associate professor in the Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies, and a co-director of the department's Institute for Ethics and Public Affairs at Old Dominion University The discussion will take place on Thursday, February 23, 2006, from 5:30-6:30pm, in the Mills Godwin Building, Room 102 at Old Dominion University. The timeline traces two millennia of black history, and the browse features enable you to pinpoint the central people, places, topics, and events covered in black history. Image and multimedia galleries provide snapshots of black culture throughout the ages. Access this Web site through the Library's "General Reference Sources" option under "Almanacs and Encyclopedias." Once you open Britannica Online, scroll to the bottom right of the page where there is a link to the Spotlights archive.
