LIBNEWS-L: New Resources and Services at Old Dominion University Libraries February 12, 2008 VOTE TODAY!!! * New Database: Cabell's Directory of Publishing Opportunities -- Business & Education * New Database: Virginia Company Archives * Tax Forms on the Web ------------------------------------------------------------------ ==> NEW DATABASE: CABELL'S DIRECTORY OF PUBLISHING OPPORTUNITIES -- BUSINESS & EDUCATION The library has recently acquired an online subscription to Cabell's Directory whose goal is to "help professors, graduate students and researchers publish their manuscripts." The directory provides current contact information as well as publication guidelines and review information for journals in the fields of Accounting, Economics & Finance, Management, Marketing, Educational Curriculum & Methods, Educational Psychology & Administration, Educational Technology & Library Science, and Psychology & Psychiatry. "The index in each Directory helps you match the characteristics of your manuscript to the topic areas the journal emphasizes." For most journals, the directory includes: * the type of review process * acceptance rate * number of reviewers * time required for review * availability of reviewers’ comments * style and format of most journals -- if a journal has its own set of manuscript guidelines, a copy of these guidelines is published in the Directory * publication guidelines required by a journal (e.g., APA, MLA) * fees charged to review or publish the manuscript * copies required * manuscript topics Access Cabell's from the library's "Databases" page by title, or under the subject categories "Business & Economy" and "Education." Because Cabell's is available through library subscription, IP address restrictions apply: from off campus, you'll need to enter your Campus UIN at the Easy Proxy page. For more information, contact Nancy Schafer at nschafer@odu.edu. --------------------------------------------- ==> NEW DATABASE: VIRGINIA COMPANY ARCHIVES Another new database for the library is the Virginia Company Archives, which contains primary source documents from the 1600s. Included are: * the Ferrar Papers (Nicholas Ferrar and family) * transcripts of documents that throw light on the Virginia Company of London * the four volumes of The Records of the Virginia Company of London edited by Susan Myra Kingsbury * various prints and maps Access the Virginia Company Archives from the library's "Databases" page by title, or under the subject "History."
