==> FRIENDS OF THE LIBRARY EVENT: MARYANNE WOLF LECTURE -- TONIGHT

The Friends of the Old Dominion University Libraries are proud to host
Maryanne Wolf, author of the national best-selling book, Proust and the
Squid: The Story and Science of the Reading Brain, as she presents a
lecture on how the brain learned to read and in the process changed the way
we think.  The lecture will take place tonight, Tuesday, February 19, at 7
p.m., at St. Patrick’s Catholic School in Norfolk.  Although the event is
free, seating is limited and the public is urged to make reservations by
contacting Fern McDougal at 757-683-4146 or by e-mail at fmcdouga@odu.edu.
St. Patrick’s Catholic School, a modern and unique model of child-centered
education, is located at 1000 Bolling Avenue in Norfolk, across Hampton
Boulevard from the Old Dominion University campus.

==> MANY DATABASES ON TRIAL FOR YOUR REVIEW

The Library has trial access to several databases.  Be sure to try them out
before they expire.
     * Encyclopedia of Popular Music (Oxford) -- through March 8, 2008
     * Women and Social Movements Scholar's Edition -- through April 6,
2008
     * ComVista -- through May 2008

Additional trials have been established by VIVA (the Virtual Library of
Virginia) to several multidisciplinary database systems -- available
through April 15, 2008:
     * EBSCO
     * Gale Cengage Learning
     * ProQuest Central
and to * Mergent Online, a business database.

You can access these trials from the bottom of the "Databases" page on the
Library's Web site. If you'd like to review them, be sure to make note of
the trial ending date, and any password instructions listed. Trial products
are offered for evaluation purposes. No assurance is offered that trial
products will be purchased.  Please give your feedback to your Subject
specialist librarian or to Pamela Morgan, our Collection Development
Officer.

==>  ACADEMIC ONEFILE ADDITIONS

Gale's Academic OneFile has added video files and more full-text titles.
"OR Live" is a collection of live surgery videos added to Academic OneFile
and Health Reference Center Academic databases. "Medical students will now
have the ability to view live surgeries. From plastic surgery to vascular
surgeries, anesthesia to spine surgeries, Academic OneFile will provide
both articles and video!"

Thirty-five peer reviewed journals have been added to Academic OneFile.
These titles include:

     * English Teaching Professional
     * ESL Magazine
     * Gaming Law Review
     * Genetic Testing
     * Geofizika
