Volume 18, Issue 4, October 1996

New WWW workshops for faculty

In the month of October, the library will sponsor two different brown bag lunch events for faculty, to be held in Library 211 from 12:30 to 1:30. On Thursday, October 10, we will present another of our "Introduction to Searching the Web" sessions.

On Thursday, October 17, we are offering a new workshop called "Searching VIVA Resources on the Web." This workshop highlights the Virtual Library of Virginia Project (VIVA) FirstSearch and InfoTrac databases, as well as electronic journals and texts available through VIVA.

Please call the Reference Department at 683-4178 if you would like to attend either or both of these events. Everyone will have an opportunity for hands-on exploration of these Internet resources. If you would like a World-Wide-Web workshop for your whole department faculty, with particular emphasis on that discipline, please call 683-4182 to make arrangements.

Audio tour discontinued, but...

A variety of self-service alternatives exist to help you learn about the library. Among them are:

Because of construction and frequent changes in locations of services and collections, we have had to discontinue the audio tour, at least until 1998.

More WWW workshops for students

Four additional half-hour workshops titled "Searching the World-Wide-Web" will be offered in October for Old Dominion University students.

On October 2 and 8, the workshops begin at 6:00pm. On October 15 and 22, they will start at 12:45pm. All will be held at Internet workstations in the lobby of the library.

Students must register on the day of the workshop they wish to attend by calling 683-4178 or by signing up in person at the reference desk in the library.
