Library Update

Volume 19, Issue 1, January 1997

Special-focus workshops for faculty

On January 9 and 10, from 11 a.m. to noon, two World Wide Web workshops for faculty will be held in the University Library, room 211.

Keeping Current with Web Resources, led by Systems Librarian Jeff Barry and Electronic Resources Librarian Karen Vaughan on January 9, will show you some valuable new resources and ways of keeping up with the explosion of information on the Web.

Using Government Sources on the Web, led by Government Information Reference Librarian Janet Justis and Social Sciences Librarian Stuart Frazer on January 10, will focus on finding and downloading government information from Virginia, the U.S., and intragovernmental organizations.

Both of the workshops will feature hands-on experience as well as demonstrations. To register, please telephone the University Library Reference and Research Services Department at 683-4178.

Expansion and renovation of the Main Library is on schedule. The target completion date is January 4, 1998.

WWW workshops for students

Introductions to searching the World Wide Web will be offered to students from 12:45 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. on Tuesdays, January 28 and February 4, and from 6 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, January 29.

Students will learn to navigate the Web using Netscape at these workshops.

Students must register on the day of the workshop they wish to attend by phoning 683-4178 or by signing up at the reference desk of the library.
