Visit the "new" library on August 25
The new Digital Services Center will be the focus of a late morning event open to all faculty. Located on the third floor, Northwest corner, the center is a place where faculty can get expert help in using information technology and resources in teaching. Scanners and other state-of-the-art computer equipment are available to faculty working on course web pages or other similar projects.
An introduction to these services will be held from 11:00 until 11:30 on August 25. Tours of the entire library will be offered to faculty just beforehand, at 10:30, and afterward, at 11:30, so that they may preview the arrangement of collections and see the various service points before the start of the semester.
Where is the new Digital Services Center? Special Collections? microforms? Take 30 minutes from your busy schedule to see where library service points and collections are located.
Tours are open to the Old Dominion University community and will be held at 12:45 on September 9, 14, 16 and 21.
No registration is necessary. Just meet in the library lobby by the poster advertising the event.
How can I access the library catalog and databases from home? How can I identify databases appropriate to my subject? What are some tips for doing better searches?
When should I use a keyword search instead of a subject search? Are there any insider tips on using the library's catalog to save me some time and effort?
If you want answers to questions like these, plus a quick guide to where things are in the library, these Introduction to the Library sessions are for you. They will be held every Tuesday in September from 12:45 until 1:15. Meet the librarian in the library lobby by the poster.
Instructors please note that these sessions are intended for interested individuals--faculty, staff and students--not whole classes.

Additional workshops will be held on Saturday, September 19, at 1:00pm; Tuesday, September 8, at 6:00pm; and Wednesday, September 16, at 7:00pm.
Students are required to register on the day of the workshop they wish to attend by either calling 757-683-4178 or coming to the reference desk.
