Library to be named after Perrys
To recognize a substantial gift made by Patricia W. and J. Douglas
Perry to the Campaign for Old Dominion University, the Board of
Visitors has approved naming the library in their honor. Patricia
Perry is a graduate of Old Dominion University and is a member of
the Board of Visitors. Douglas Perry serves as a trustee on Old
Dominion's Educational Foundation.
Faculty events at the library
Changes in Scholarly Electronic Publishing is the title
of a workshop to be led by Systems Librarian Jeff Barry on February
18. The workshop will explore issues, challenges and opportunities
presented by the availability of research materials, such as dissertations
and journals, in electronic format. The event will be held in room
151 of the library, from 12:30 until 1:30pm.

GIS web page and workshop
The Library now has a web page for geographic information systems
(GIS). Located under the Information Resources section of the library's
web site, this page describes available services, data, and software
for utilizing GIS on campus. Also included are links to learning
more about GIS and how it is used in various disciplines. You will
find this new page at http://www.lib. odu.edu/resources/gis.
Also, a workshop for faculty is set for March 15 at 2:00pm. Details
will be sent to all academic departments.

Humanities Reference Librarian hired
Elizabeth Hogue has accepted the position of Humanities Reference
Librarian, which includes responsibilities for developing collections
for the F. Ludwig Diehn Composers Room. She comes to us from the
University of Southern Maine where she served as a research and
instructional services librarian.
Hogue earned her M.L.S. from San Jose State University, where she
also received her B.A. in Theater Arts. She also studied at the
New England Conservatory of Music and is an accomplished singer.
ABI Global: a comprehensive new business database
The newest addition to the Library's business and management resources
is ABI/Inform Global. This web-based database provides indexing
to articles in business journals, magazines and newspapers covering
the years from 1971 to present. Features include full-text and full-image
articles, daily updates, an option to E-mail
articles, and online help for advanced searching techniques. Best
of all, because if is available via the Internet, ABI/Inform
Global is accessible from any desktop by Old Dominion students,
faculty and staff. Remember to use the Library's proxy server for
off-campus access.
Digital Services Center hours extended
The Library's third floor Digital Services Center is now open on
Wednesday evenings and Saturday afternoons in addition to its weekday
schedule. Hours are: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, 8:00am-4:00pm;
Wednesday, 8:00am-8:00pm; and Saturday, 1:00pm-5:00pm.
Tax forms available
Most federal tax forms are now available in the library lobby.
You can also download federal forms, publications and other information
from the Internet at http://www.irs. ustreas.gov/ . The library
is expecting to receive Virginia forms very soon. Meanwhile, they
are also available over the Internet at http://www/state.va.us/tax/taxforms.htm
