Integrating
Web-Based Primary Resources into Your Web Pages is the title of
a two-part workshop designed for faculty, staff and graduate students.
Part I, Finding Resources on the Web will be held on February 15,
and Part II, Techniques for Integrating Resources is scheduled for
February 22. On March 15, Finding & Using Tests and Measurement
Resources is the workshop topic. On April 18, the theme is Census
2000: How does it affect you? All workshops will be held in the
Information Technologies Instruction Center, room 163 of Perry Library,
from 2:00-3:00pm. No registration is necessary. For more information,

Workshops for students

Web workshops
for Old Dominion University students are scheduled for February
1 and March 14 at 12:30 in room 163 of Perry Library. Students will
learn to search the Web effectively, get tips about techniques,
and have an opportunity to try hands-on searches. Reservations are
necessary to guarantee a place and may be made at the reference
desk in person or by calling 683-4178 on the day of the workshop.
On April 17, a Term Paper Triage session for students will be held
all afternoon, 1:00 - 4:00 in room 163. Librarians and Writing Center
personnel will be on hand to assist students. This is a drop-in
session; no registration is required.
New database: Compendex
Compendex,
the premier database in the field of engineering, has been added
to our collection. It is part of the Ei (Engineering Information)
Village, a service which contains a wide variety of information
from links to over 14,000 Web sites, access to engineers and librarians,
a technical alert service and a current awareness service. Compendex
is the electronic version of Engineering Index, the most comprehensive
interdisciplinary engineering database in the world. It covers approximately
4,500 journals and selected government reports and books. Subjects
covered include civil, energy, environmental, geological, and biological
engineering; electrical, electronics, and control engineering; chemical,
mining, metals, and fuel engineering; mechanical, automotive, nuclear,
and aerospace engineering; and computers, robotics and industrial
robots. Coverage is from 1970-present. To try it out, go to http://www.lib.odu.edu/
resources and type Compendex in the search box.

Free concert and exhibit
Kaleidoscope:
the Musical World of Adolphus Hailstork is the title of both an
exhibition and a concert featuring the work of celebrated composer
Adolphus Hailstork, who lives and works in Hampton Roads. He is
the winner of numerous awards and has had his works performed by
some of the most prestigious orchestras and artists. The concert,
on February 13 at 3:00pm in the Chandler Recital Hall, requires
advance reservations, which may be made by calling 683-4175. The
exhibition opens at 2:00pm in the Diehn Composers Room on February
13 and runs through March 31. In addition, a comprehensive online

New business reference
librarian arrives
As of February
10, Amanda Wakaruk is Perry Library's new Business Reference Librarian.
She comes to us from the Alberta Justice Department, where she served
as Acting Reference Librarian for the Staff College Library. She
has had additional experience in the public sector and holds the
MLS degree from the University of Alberta and a BA in Commerce from
Athabasca University.
