Don't miss these exhibits
in February and March
In celebration of Black History Month, Perry Library presents "The
Life of the Attucks Theater: From the Center of Culture to a Cultural
Center. " The exhibit, held in the library lobby, features
large photographs of the theater and celebrities who performed there,
as well as playbills and other materials on loan from the Crispus
Attucks Cultural Center. The Center's home page is at http://sites.
communitylink.org/attucks/index.html.
In
March, an additional exhibit will be mounted, honoring Women's History
Month. "Norfolk Women Working for Justice" will focus
on materials from the Perry Library's Special Collections and encourages
scholars to explore the collections for possible research projects.
An accom-panying Web page is located at: http://www.lib.odu.edu

Remember The American
Memory
Black
History Month is a perfect time to get acquainted with this Library
of Congress site devoted to primary source and archival materials
relating to American culture and history. Located at http://memory.loc.gov/ammem/
amhome.html, the site offers the complete text of documents
in The African-American Pamphlet Collection, 1824-1909, African
American Odyssey, and several other relevant collections.
For Women's History Month,
you might try searching for "women" across all the collections.
You will find some 500 documents, among them, a 1917 film of women
suffragettes visiting Teddy Roosevelt, lyrics to songs about women,
and a collection of 19th Century books, including Common Sense in
the Household; a Manual of Practical Housewifery.
From
our home page at http://www.lib.odu.edu,
you may click on Information Resources and type American Memory
in the search box for easy access to these fascinating collections.
