Faculty workshop on plagiarism

See how easy it is for students using the Internet to plagiarize. Learn from other faculty members ways to detect and prevent plagiarism. Some refreshments will be provided, but please bring a brown bag lunch if you wish. The workshop begins at 12:30 PM on Thursday, April 4, in Room 151 of Perry Library.

Saturday workshops
for grad students

Here's an opportunity for graduate students to sharpen their research skills. Workshops on March 23 and 30 will focus on electronic journal access as well as database search techniques. The workshops run 9:30 to 11:30 AM and are held in room 163 of Perry Library. For more information, email nschafer@odu.edu or check http://www.lib.odu.edu/research/gradwrkshps.shtml.

Ingenta available to grad students, too

Graduate students now have the privilege of obtaining articles at no charge to them through the Ingenta system. Along with faculty members and distance learning students, they may order an article at no charge when the total cost listed is $35 or less. Formerly the price cap was $25.

Articles requested through Ingenta are delivered directly to the requester via fax. Some articles may be available in electronic format that can be downloaded as PDF files.

Ingenta will only supply such articles from journals not owned by the Old Dominion University Libraries. However, the option exists for purchasing any available articles directly from Ingenta, using your credit card.

The Ingenta service does not replace interlibrary loan of materials. Call the Interlibrary Loan Office at 683-4170, or email Wayne Burton at wburton@odu.edu for more information about either service.

Ingenta workshop on February 7

Faculty and graduate students are invited to a workshop led by an Ingenta representative at 12:30 PM on February 7. Tips on searching and ordering articles through this document delivery service will be the focus of the workshop. Come with questions.

Only 40 participants can be accommodated at this session. If you are interested in alternate workshop times or would like additional information, please call Wayne Burton at 683-4170 or write to him at wburton@odu.edu.

Use this huge digital image archive

A wealth of illustrative material, both photos and graphs, is at your fingertips when you use the AccuNet AP Multimedia Archive.

Search by subject, location, date and even color! These resources may be used in printed book reports, term papers, theses, class handouts and research, as well as in Power Point™-type presentations, overhead projections, slide shows, and other similar multimedia presentations whose usage is confined to the licensed institution (Old Dominion University).

Not allowed is use of the images and other media in newspapers, magazines, brochures, catalogs, commercial announcements, calendars, posters, yearbooks, playbills, newsletters, on T-shirts, or promotional items, or for commercial use or gain of any kind.

The archive can be found under Information Resources on the library's Web page. Simply type accunet in the search box, or choose it from the Title List.
