A Festival favorite
Achy Obejas, a widely published poet and fiction
writer, gives a presentation last Friday in Chandler Recital Hall for
the 19th Annual Literary Festival, "Forbidden Passage." Also
a journalist, Obejas writes a weekly column for the Chicago Tribune.
The festival which ran from Oct. 10-13, brought 11 writers to campus
who helped explore the theme of censorship. Often controversial and
thought-provoking, the festival was larger than in years past. It also
included open-mike sessions at which students and other area writers
could read from their works.
