CECILIA VICUNA

Cecilia Vicuña is a Chilean poet, visual and solo performance artist, film maker, and the author of fourteen poetry books published in Europe, Latin America and the US. She has performed and exhibited her work at national and international venues, including the University of Cambridge Contemporary Poetry Conference, the Museum of Modern Art, The Palais des Beaux Arts in Brussels, the Tucher Literary Salon in Berlin, the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York, the Whitechapel Art Gallery in London, and the Royal Botanical Gardens in Edinburgh. She has an MFA from the University of Chile in Santiago and she did her postgraduate work at the Slade School of Fine Arts, University College, London. Cecilia has received many honors, including the Pennies from Heaven Award and the Human Rights Award from the Fund for Free Expression. Her poetry has been widely anthologized, most recently in The Book of the Book, edited by Jerome Rothenberg and Steve Clay, and Poems for the Millenium, edited by Jerome Rothenberg and Pierre Joris. Recent publications are Instan; El Templo; and QUIPOem/The Precarious: The Art and Poetry of Cecilia Vicuña, edited by M. Catherine de Zegher and translated by Esther Allen.
