About this Web Site

This web site is the collaborative product of the English Department and the Perry Library at Old Dominion University. A team was organized in 1999 for the purpose of collecting, archiving, and cataloging physical materials from past festivals, and then digitizing those materials for preservation and an online exhibit. The project is ongoing, as materials from future festivals are added to the archives and web site.

A majority of Festival materials were donated to the University Archives by Phil Raisor, John Broderick, and other faculty in the English Department. We plan to continue collecting materials as the project progresses.

A finding aid to the archival materials has been compiled using the Encoded Archival Description, and is available through the Library's online catalog and through this web site.

The Web site was presented in three phases:

  • Phase I consisted of pages for each festival that included a scan of the brochure, a photo exhibit, a list of authors, links to author pages which include bio and photo taken from the brochure. Available October 1999.
  • Phase II involved extensive enhancements to the web site with audio/video, links to more information about the authors, news coverage, and additional materials. Available October 2000.
  • Phase III is ongoing and annual, as materials from each future festival are digitized and incorporated into the archive.
