Provenance
The Dr. George Gay III Collection of classical music records was donated
by John E. Doughty, who inherited it, to Old Dominion University in
1972. It was housed in the Diehn Composers Room in 1997.
Access and Borrowing Materials
This collection of Historical Recordings is available for research
in the Diehn Composers Room, only.
Staff will not make copies of materials, due to copyright restrictions
which protect sound recordings until 2067.
Long-play records are cataloged under the title "George Gay III
Collection" in the Libraries' online catalog. Copies of the entire
LP collection are available on cassettes, which circulate. To search
the online catalog of the Old Dominion University Libraries, click here. 78rpm records are not library-cataloged.
They are shelved in the Music Special Collections area according to
a numbering system that was devised by Dr. Gay.

Collection Numeration
LPs are shelved together as the "Gay Collection" and cataloged
DA 566.9.C5F8 through PS 3509.L43M8 1953. 78s are not library-cataloged
but are shelved according to a numbering system that was devised by
Dr. Gay.
