New Music Performance Collection
The New Music Performance Collection is a cooperative project of the
Virginia Tidewater Consortium libraries to serve music faculty members
who incorporate new music in their teaching. Participating institutions
include Old Dominion University, Hampton University, Christopher Newport
University, Norfolk State University, and the College of William and Mary.
This project is made possible by a grant from the F. Ludwig Diehn Music
Fund of the Norfolk Foundation.
The goal of The New Music Performance Collection is to develop a collection of scores that provide opportunities for students to perform new music. Most materials in the collection are suitable for performance by undergraduate level ensembles. The Collection features compositions created after 1970 by active, living composers. Small vocal and instrumental chamber ensembles of no more than twelve parts, rather than large orchestral or symphonic works are emphasized. All musical genres are collected at this time, except those that are purely electronic music. This material is available for research in the Diehn Composers Room, and for borrowing through Interlibrary Loan.
