Introduction
HISTORY
The Conductors Guild devotes itself to the advancement of the art and craft of conducting, serving the artistic and professional needs of all conductors, offering a mentoring program, and serving as a voice for the conducting profession within the music community. Membership is international and is open to all conductors and institutions involved with instrumental and/or vocal music.
The Conductors Guild issues several publications, including the scholarly "Journal of the Conductors Guild," a quarterly newsletter ("Podium Notes"), "Conductor Opportunities Bulletin" (monthly), and an annual membership directory. Additionally, the Guild sponsors annual conferences, workshops, seminars, and summer institutes devoted to the intensive training and development of conductors and directed by experienced professional conductors.
The New Music Project is one such program that meets annually to concentrate on new music. Conductors who are individual members, and music publishers who are institutional members of the Guild, choose a piece of music they would like to present to the group. A full orchestra is available to them for the performance. The aim of the collection is to collect each of the pieces presented at each of the New Music Project conferences.
The Conductors Guild Collection consists of a core of music selected from the 2003 New Music Project of the Conductors Guild Annual Conference. The collection includes scores (without parts) and audio recordings. It is expected to be added to annually in January, after the conclusion of each conference.
