HISTORY

"A Representation of the New Music Performance Collection" is the name chosen for a concert held on June 8, 2003 - the first to highlight original compositions from the New Music Performance Collection which features compositions of all musical genres created after 1970 by actively working composers. Compositions for this concert were solicited from some of the winning composers of the 2001 Region III, Annual Society of Composers, Inc.Conference that took place at Old Dominion University. Those works included "Stationary Fronts" by Michael (Mike) McFerron; "Fleeting Visions" by Timothy Melbinger; "Snow Night" by Jan Krzywicki; "Rites of Passage" by Frances Thompson (Sis) McKay; "Molly" by Alicyn Warren; "Autumn Portraits," "What is Beauty but a Breath," and "Heiligenstadt" by Frank Felice; and "Charmonium" by Brian Robison.

"A Representation of the New Music Performance Collection" was performed in Chandler Hall at Old Dominion University by members of CREO, the ODU's contemporary music ensemble, and members of the Virginia Symphony Orchestra and the Virginia Chorale. Andrey Kasparov, Professor of Music at Old Dominion University, served as Music Director. The event was made possible by the F. Ludwig Diehn Music Fund of The Norfolk Foundation.
