The New Music Performance Collection features compositions created
after 1970 by active, living composers, and includes all musical genres.
Many of the materials in the collection are suitable for performance
by undergraduate level ensembles. The goal of the New Music Performance
Collection is to develop a collection of professional level scores that
provide opportunities for students to perform new music, and to encourage
the collaboration of composers of new music and the students who are
performing their works. In addition, works from the collection are periodically
presented in concerts to the University community, as well as the community
at large.
The New Music Performance Collection actively collects compositions
selected by a juried process. For example, compositions selected for
conference programs of national or regional organizations or winners
of a recognized competition are sought. Also, works commissioned by
recognized ensembles or performers, or those recommended by a music
faculty member are desired. Composers may also submit scores that meet
these criteria to the New Music Performance Collection. Although most
of the pieces in the collection were composed by people who have college
or university affiliation, any composition that meets the criteria for
the collection is eligible for inclusion. Compositions are searchable
through a web-based database and the online catalog of the Old Dominion
University Libraries.
Composers should send two copies of the score, one to circulate and
a second copy for archival purposes. Please do not send instrumental
parts at this time. Parts are not included in the New Music Performance
Collection because of copyright considerations. However, they will be
solicited by the Diehn Composers Room for use during library-sponsored
public performances. After the performance all parts will be returned
to the composer. Published (including out-of-print ) and printed scores
or manuscripts, audiotapes, CDs, and digitized audio files are acceptable.
Submissions are accepted Monday through Friday between the hours of
8:00 AM and 5:00 PM at the Diehn Composers Room, Old Dominion University.
Please contact the Diehn Composers Room Consultant, Jay Moore at 757-683-4175.
