Borrowing Materials
Policies
All borrowers are personally responsible for the safety, proper use, and timely return of all library materials charged to them. Listening Library materials should be returned to that room and not placed in the book drop where they could be damaged or desensitized. Fines for overdue materials accrue at the rate of $.10 per item per day up to the cost of replacement of the item. Items on reserve are fined at a higher rate. The borrower is charged $25.00 for most lost or damaged recordings; other materials are priced from Acquisition Price Sources. Patrons may renew their own items at any available online catalog terminal in the library, by dial-in access to the online catalog from outside the library, or in person at the Listening Library. Renewals by phone are not accepted. Renewals by electronic mail are accepted.
- All cataloged materials which are bound or formatted for public use (facsimile or printed scores and sound recordings) circulate according to University Library policies and procedures.
- Cataloged items will have overdue fines charged as usual.
- Materials such as manuscripts and masters may be used in-house only. Photocopying may be allowed. Patrons will be supplied gloves and pencils before handling manuscripts.
- The Library Assistant will catalog score and parts sets or other non-cataloged materials prior to making special circulation allowances available.
Procedures
- Upon request of an uncataloged item by a patron or organization, for performance or other non-study use (lecture, presentation, etc.), the Library Assistant will require five (5) working days to catalog the item.
- These items will circulate from the date of pick-up to the day after the event has transpired. Patrons will sign this circulation agreement, in addition to having the item checked-out on the library's catalog, in which they agree to return the item by its due date. This form also contains procedures for them to follow should there be any delays or problems with the prompt return of the item.
- Special circulated items will not be subject to recall. Holds will be placed as usual.
NOTE: The circulation of non-cataloged items may depend on their physical condition. Preservation/conservation measures may have to be taken. Items that circulate are subject to damage. These measures should take place prior to circulation whenever possible.
