Using EndNote

EndNote is a tool for acquiring, organizing and managing citations.
Using EndNote, you can keep track of all the papers you have read and automatically create in-text citations and works cited pages.
The Library provides instruction on how to export citations from databases into EndNote and how to use it to cite works.

How to Configure and Use "Find Full Text"
With the "Find Full Text" feature, EndNote will search all of the ODU Library’s online journal subscriptions and attach the articles that match your references.
Please Note that "Find Full Text" does not work consistently. For example, if the ODU Library subscribes to multiple copies of the online journal, EndNote will not provide a link. It may be necessary to download the articles from within the database, and attach them individually.
To configure in EndNote:
1. Go to Edit/Preferences
2. Select “Find Full Text”
3. For the OpenURL Path, enter: http://zp5x6zm2k.search.serialssolutions.com
4. For the Authenticate URL, enter: http://proxy.lib.odu.edu/login?url=
Note: In order to find full text, cookies must be turned on in Internet Explorer.
To find and retrieve full text:
1. Select the reference(s) to which you want to add full text (up to 1000 at a time).
2. From the References menu, select Find Full Text>Find Full Text.
- If you have a reference open, you can use the right-click contextual menu to select Find Full Text.
- (Optional) If you have entered an OpenURL address and authentication URL under Find Full Text preferences, you may be directed to the proxy login web page.
- Follow the instructions to log in, such as entering the appropriate User ID and password.
- Once you are logged in, click Continue. EndNote begins searching for and downloading full text for the selected references.
When EndNote finds a full text file, a link is saved to the File Attachments field of the record. The actual file (usually a PDF) is stored in the .DATA folder. A paper clip icon appears in the File Attachments column of your references list.
