Where is Reference? Why do I need it?

The Reference and Research Department provides assistance in person, by phone, by email, and by chat including assistance with electronic resources. It also provides library instruction services.

Reference Desk Assistance

Email & Chat Assistance

Reference offers advice about research tools and techniques for specific topics and helps locate needed materials. Reference desk assistance is not offered every hour the library is open. Hours are listed on the library home page in the About ODU Libraries section.

Reference staff provides telephone assistance for all hours that the reference desk is open, providing brief information and advice about effective research strategy, search terms, resources, titles which might be helpful, and other library services.
