  Musica Viva's Encyclopedia of Music
Includes sheet music in the public domain for downloading, and information about music notation, midi files and ABC.
  The Classical Music Navigator
This project was conceived by Charles H. Smith (B.A., M.A., Ph.D., M.L.S.; currently Professor of Library Public Services at Western Kentucky University. The website lists 444 composers by geographic location, giving notable works and pertinent information for each.

Contains sounds of all regions from every continent, such as reggae, worldbeat, neo-traditional, world fusion, Balkanic jazz, African film, Bollywood, Arab swing and jazz. The focus is concentrated on contemporary genres, such as fusion and world beat, but also includes other genres such as traditional music - Indian classical, fado, flamenco, klezmer, zydeco, gospel, gagaku, and more. It is a complementary database to Smithsonian Global Sound for Libraries.

Provides the largest and most comprehensive collection of jazz available online—with thousands of jazz artists, ensembles, albums, and genres. Artists range from past greats to musicians performing and recording today. Liner notes to all the albums are included (in PDF format) as well as static URLs to each track and album in the database.

Provides a comprehensive database in streaming audio, video, reference, and scores on the web. The new interface cross-searches the following Alexander Street products—African American Music Reference, American Song, Classical Music Library, Classical Music Reference Library, Classical Scores Library, Contemporary World Music, Garland Encyclopedia of World Music, and Jazz Music Library. African American Music and Smithsonian Global Sound for Libraries will be added in early summer 2009.

Includes the published recordings owned by the non-profit Smithsonian Folkways Recordings label and the archival audio collections of other legendary labels. It also includes music recorded around the African continent as well as material collected by recordists on the South Asian subcontinent. It is an educational resource that delivers the world’s diverse cultural expressions in an informative way via digital media.

Provides access to multiple types of scores across various composers, genres, and time periods. Many items have associated audio tracks in Classical Music Library, so users can listen to a recording online while following along with the full score.
  International Music Score Library Project
The IMSLP holds approximately 29,110 public domain scores that are available for download. Primarily the website includes instrumental music issued in the 19th and early 20th century. Also contains some vocal music, particularly the lieder of Liszt, Schoenberg and Schumann.

  Cylinder Preservation and Digitization Project New resource 
Funded by the Institute of Museum and Library Services, the University of California, Santa Barbara Libraries have created a digital collection of nearly 8,000 cylinder recordings held by their Department of Special Collections.
  Global Music Archive
A multi-media reference archive and resource center for traditional and popular song, music, and dance of Africa and the Americas. The archive is housed within the Anne Potter Wilson Music Library in Vanderbilt University's Blair School of Music.
  Sheet Music Collections New resource 
A list of links to sheet music collections organized by Duke University Libraries.
  Televised Opera and Musical Comedy Database
Includes 925 records of opera, operetta, and musical comedy telecasts. This database is an on-going research project developed in association with the Indiana University Digital Library Program and retired IU faculty member, Herbert Seltz.
  The Lester S. Levy Collection of Sheet Music
Contains over 29,000 pieces of music and focuses on popular American music spanning the period 1780 to 1960. Site created by Special Collections, Milton S. Eisenhower Library, The Johns Hopkins University.
