Historical Background
Greek organizations were first officially recognized in 1966, four years after the school gained independence from the College of William and Mary and three years before it became Old Dominion University. In 1978, the Student Life office was formed and hired graduate students to be liaisons between the university and the Greek organizations. The Student Life office became the Student Affairs department in 1979.
Scope and Contents
The documents in this collection are memoranda and newsletters from university student leadership to officers of Greek organizations detailing current issues, activities, deadlines, and other similar material. The papers are authored by Bill Larkin (Assistant Dean of Student Affairs), Student Life Staff, Student Affairs Staff and assorted other authors. These papers are from August 1975 to April 1980.
These papers have a very limited scope, reflecting the everyday Greek life on campus and say very little about any events outside of the university such as the student revolution, economic troubles, the cold war, or Watergate.
