Kathryn Hill Venner peacefully passed away in her sleep on Nov.
11, 1999. She was in her home of more than 50 years, surrounded by
her seven children and her husband of 58 years, Dr. Robert B. Venner.
She was born in Council Bluffs, Iowa, on Dec. 2, 1916. Her parents
were Dr. Christine Erickson Hill and Dr. Chalmers Alexander Hill. She
graduated from Lindenwood College in 1938 and was the only woman in
her graduating class of The Medical College of the University of
Nebraska in 1941. She interned at New York Hospital for Women and
Children. She practiced medicine as a pedicatrician with her husband
in Virginia Beach for more than 40 years. She was a past member of
the Virginia Beach Medical Society, Virginia Beach Woman's Club, the
Optimist Club and many other civic organizations.
She is survived by her husband, her seven children and their
spouses, Mary Ann and Herman Schmidt, Amanda Jane and Michael Yoder,
Robert Hill and Lisa Venner, Sally Elizabeth and Hughes Rhodes,
William Hunter Venner, John Orlin and Melisa Walker Venner, and James
Alexander Venner; 11 grandchildren, Edward O'Neal Yoder and his wife,
Traci, William Hunter Schmidt, Michael Andrew Yoder, Robert Hughes
Rhodes, Kathryn Christine Yoder, Elizabeth Hill Rhodes, Jeffery Lynn
Venner, Jonathan Alexander Venner, Mathew Boswell Venner, David
Ericksen Venner and Emily Kathryn Venner; and three great-
grandchildren, Lelia O'Neal Yoder, Savannah Rose Yoder and Camille
Grace Yoder. She is also survived by three nieces, one nephew and a
sister-in-law, Martha Venner Holly, who all live out of the area.
A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Sunday at Nimmo United
Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that
memorial donations be made in her name to The Eastern Virginia
Medical School. Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Great Neck Chapel, is in
charge of arrangements.
She was loved by all who knew her.
