| Ruth James | Lead litigant in the court cases initiated to reopen the closed schools. Interview focuses on Norfolk's bout with massive resistance in 1958. The 8 interviews included in this collection were conducted for the Old Dominion University History course 495/595: "Recapturing Women's History: Local and National," taught by Dr. Dorothy Johnson in the Fall of 1982. Each interview includes a brief biographical sketch of the person interviewed and a typed transcript. Related to women involved with religion (Mueller, Park ), medicine (Hill, Morris), education (James, White), and the Girl Scout Movement in Norfolk (Harris, Ogg). |

Focusing on sex roles of the 1930's, as influenced by the Depression, this project produced an archival collection consisting of a series of 17 interviews on 16 cassette tapes. An additional tape concludes with speeches and music. Dr. Jean E. Friedman coordinated this project in the 1980s.

| Pat Merchant Park | First woman priest to preach for the Diocese of Southern Virginia at the Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Virginia Beach. Especially important due to the well publicized desire of the presiding Bishop at the time to prevent women becoming ordained in this diocese. This interview recounts her experiences. Conducted October 1982 as part of Norfolk Women's History class project. |

| Rhodes, Carolyn H. | ODU Faculty in English and Women's Studies, 1965-1990. She was instrumental in creating the Women's Caucus and Women's Studies program at ODU. Her interview discusses her experiences at ODU, her views on feminism, and her activism as a feminist. |
| Edith White | Wife of Forrest P. White, prominent leader in the Norfolk Committee for Public Schools. Primarily concerns her and her family's experiences during the crisis and the role of women in Virginia politics during the 1950's. Conducted November 6, 1982 as part of Norfolk Women's History class project. |
